EGYPT Project

One of the goals we had for this year was to come up with a unit than spanned all of the curriculum areas, and this was our recent Egypt unit.  Students looked at all aspects from social studies to math (who knew the surface area of the pyramids was so huge?!).

Here are some pictures from the project:

Happy New Year

We had a fabulous week before Christmas Break in our classroom!
We did Christmas Math Centers

We had a great time at our Secret Santa exchange!  It was BY FAR one of my top five favorite teaching moments of all time!  The students did such a great job picking out sweet and thoughtful gifts!!!  I love that we did it as a team, also!

Now we are back to the grind of getting ready for our second benchmark assessment and finishing up our algebra unit!

The Peppermint Challlenge

We took a break from our sound unit to do a little STEM activity (science, technology, engineering, and math) which served as a great team builder as well.  Students needed to cooperate and collaborate to build not only the TALLEST   tower possible with the materials they were given, but it also had to support three stacked peppermints.  It was a GREAT TIME!

Algebra is in Full Swing

As a team, we are ROCKING OUT the algebra!  Our Friday quiz went beautifully!  The students are combing like terms left and right--and we discovered a new love lately: MATH LIBS!  It's a twist on the language arts ones you all know and love, only they are competed with math questions!
We have been learning about sound waves as well in science, and we conpleted a sound webquest which was a lot of fun because students got to virtually play different instruments:

Introduction to Algebra

We started one of my FAVORITE units to teach this week-Algebra!
We played Combining Like Terms Go Fish!  It was a lot of fun!
We even worked through order of operations, too.

Next week we will do some fun review of math we've covered already with Thanksgiving themed math centers!  I hope you all have a wonderful holiday-I am very thankfuk to be teaching this group of students this year!

Halloween Week

We had a great week reviewing for our benchmark with fun activities and also included a fun science STEM lab as well:
Of course Mr. Siler and I had a blast dressing up as our former class mascots:
